At the barnyard of La Moixina, no one beats out buckwheat anymore. Today, however, this traditional social meeting place is more necessary than ever: to have a chat, to ask about your life, to look into your eyes, not to be pressured…. On this threshing floor simple things will have to happen; it won’t be easy.

To undertake the reform of the bar and terrace, we investigated the succession of volumes and extensions that have been added to this building over time and decided to give the role of porch space to the last annexed part: the already existing bar. This is how the project integrates the function of the bar into the large square so that it becomes the only object to be commissioned: an outdoor space with the appearance of a forest meadow, an undergrowth, a veranda or a porticoed square.

And beyond the work on the threshing floor, this commission has become a welcome pretext for reorganising the circulation and access to the whole facility. In this task, the consolidation and enlargement of the porticoed gallery on the ground floor plays a key role. Until now, the space occupied by the bar has been the boundary for an exterior corridor that today, freed of any kind of enclosure, connects all the restaurant’s spaces: from the car park to La Moixina fountain, passing through the threshing floor and the restaurant.

At the barnyard of La Moixina, no one beats out buckwheat anymore. Here, however, in this oasis of contemporary hustle and bustle, there will always be someone ready to separate the wheat from the chaff.
